What I think about project citizen is that it the best
project I did all this year because I get to figth for what I belive in. I
think this is the best project becasue I do not have to do what the techer want
to do. I like this project just because I want a new school.
I feel that this project is great because the kids get to say we they feel and
what they think and that is great because most techer get to tell what the kids
got to do and how to do it.
I am really excited because if we get the cps and the cip to build us a new
school why we on summer break . We can have more kids becase people be like you
not going to that school look at it its old and dirty and out of shape.
I wonder about the cps and the cip I think they do not want to build us a new
school becasue they think they already fix it up.

Manuel Pratt
new school
interviewed Rev. Sloss
The person role in the community is locl school cansol
Is this a problem that you think important yes because he think we need to have
good lunchroom and computer.
Do you think others in our community belive this is an important?why
grow ups grow upin this school so they think it sould be better.
What policy if any does goverment now have to deal with this problem
he think it is the govment pro blem but not because we black.
What are the advantages of this policy? 80 pecent and of this community is
rich.
What are the disadantages of this policy? CIP sould put the money back to byrd.
How might the policy be improved? They need to live race behand.
Does it need to be replaced? keep pushing you get what you want.
what disagreements about this policy if any exist in our community?
Put politcal polity in the feeling.
Where can I or my class get information send a letter to m.soctt.
How can we get put in the newpaper I am going to put them in the newpaper.
I was at the table with Rev.sloss in I interviewed him and I feel like I was a
powerful person. I feel like I was a manger of a big time compony. Like I was
the manger of a black program like Dr. king but the program Iam in is to fight
for a new school but Dr. king fight for every body rights.
Usually in the class i do not feel powerful becuase everybody try to roast on
me about my chin. but for the first time i felt porowerful becuase i was
interviewing a powerful person. it is agood thing becuase i never did this
before. it is differnt kind of school usually kids do not interview grown ups.
grownups interveiw grownups. it made me feel like a was big and powerful
grownup.
i think the interview will helps us a lot becuase if we get more people to
speak they will help us get a new school.
After the interview i started to run aorund and i was getting compliments form
the teachers and students. that made me feel that i was the most important
person in the class. i wanted to go down and interview mr. gartner the
prinicpal becuase i just felt interviewing peoiple. i though i coudl get my
grades higher and convince them to get aus a new school. he has like 30% fo the
poewer to get us a new school.
we started action plan to interview people like jesse jackson and to get them
in newspapoers like chicago defender. i am real excited to see if we can win
this back.

Are you going to Bring the magzine people
Have to make room on there schedule
Did you talk to Jesse Jackson
Got to make a school visit
When Rev. Sloss came to Byrd he told us to put pressure on people. Here are his
suggestions:
1. Interviewing poeple. This is when you talk to people and get there opinion
2. Petition. A petition is when you get people signature
3. Editoral/Newpaper/Magazines. Is when the you write something to the new
paper
4. Docvmentary viode. Make a viode
5.Poll/suruey.garph of the ranking
I like to interview people because you can meet people you never think you can
meet.

Do you realize how brave you are in fighting for what is
right. Many adults do not dare voice their opinion but you all took a stand.
Please don't give up the fight. Did you know that the civil rights movement in
the 1960's was not just led by the adults but by the young people. One group
called SNCC- Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee actually helped black
people in Mississippi to win the right to vote in their state. Before the young
people got involved these people weren't allowed to vote. The members of SNCC
taught in a "freedom school" and helped youth and adults learn about
their rights as citizens. These young people worked hard and sometimes felt
like giving up but they were determined to make a difference and stand up for
what was right. So stay strong, young warriors your ancestors would be very
proud of you !!!
Cassandra McKay
I think it is just like the civil rigths movement but not lead by adults and
kids it is lead by just kids and when we need hlep thats when we call up
mr.Schultz. I understand that you is calling us brave just like the civil
rigths movement. I say we is brave just by doing what we doing.
When you said that we just like the civil rigths movement that make me feel
like if we win or lose that we all are winers but if we win the battle we is
more of a winer than we can every be.When you said our ancestors will be proud
and in the letter it said keep figthing if we stop figthing do you think our
ancestors will be mad.
